If you travel to Bhutan then it would be a shame to miss a Buddhist festival or tsechus in the honor of Guru Rinpoche, the saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan.
They can last up to four days during which you will have the opportunity to see masked dance rituals, witness archery competitions, observe family reunions, and why not, learn more about the life of the monks.
For Bhutanese, festivals are opportunities to celebrate, enjoy, spend time with friends and family.
Some tsechus are more popular and lasts longer, but in our experience, for a tourist, they are all interesting and unique.
Here is a list of festivals that we recommend for 2024. We chose those based on performances, weather and stunning locations.
Paro Festival, Paro: March 21- March 25
Nimalung Festival, Bumthang: June 14 – June 16
